Fit for the Fireworks Fuel – SUMMER SQUASH & ZUCCHINI

In season – July through September

What to look for when buying – Squash should be smooth, free of bruises or soft spots and should be firm to the touch. Choose squash that’s rich in color.

Flavor – Very mild, which makes it perfect for grilling, marinades and other preparations that use a ton of flavor.

Storage – Store squash, unwashed in a plastic bag, preferably one with a few holes for breathability, in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator. It should keep this way for about 1 week.

Nutrition – Naturally low in calories and fat. Supplies a good amount of fiber as well as Vitamin C and Vitamin B6. And they’re made of mostly water – perfect for helping you stay hydrated in the summer heat.
